Art Journal Week: Day 5

This layout I created based on a quote I saw on Facebook (it's always good for some odd stories and awesome quotes!). The quote is, "Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds." I really liked the quote, and I think the resulting layout is self-explanatory. I again created a base under-layer of torn papers and washi tape, and then went over it with paints, stamps, gelatos, and stencils. The girl is painted with acrylics. I stamped the clock on tissue paper before adding it, since I had a suspicion I would mess it all up if I tried stamping on the layout. It never comes out perfect that way.

This next layout was about trying a fun technique - do some cool praying and have it be the hair. I love the idea in theory, but it didn't work so well in this journal. The pages of the journal were pretty thin, so I had to cover them with gesso first. The spray mists did not adhere well to gesso, creating a mess of an effect. Oh well... my next art journal has nice, proper paper :) I painted the face with acrylics and added a little pit of gelatos and stars using a stencil.

Art Journal Week: Day 4

Two more spreads from my art journal here today :) The first one is a mermaid, and I used paints, gelatos, stencil from Prima, PITT Big Brush markers, and molding paste to create the background and the mermaid. The fish and the sentiment are from the "Boardwalk" collection by BoBunny.

The main idea behind this page was wanting to do something bright and fun and work with the gelatos some more to create a colorful background. To give it more of a distressed, uneven look, I applied the gesso with a scraper to give it some grooves and bumps. You can really see that in the finished page.

For this next layout, I wanted to try a vertical orientation, and I used a technique I found on Dina Wakely's art journaling book, where you create the background and then paint over it, leaving only circles unpainted to peek through. While at it, I also decided to try cutting out a magazine image and using it, and found this pretty ballerina. I painted over her skirt with acrylics to make it purple. I also used stamps, patterned papers, tissue paper, and the awesome stars Prima stencil with molding paste.

Art Journal Week: Day 3

Thanks for stopping by! Today I'm sharing the next two spreads in my art journal. The first one is based on the children's book "My Many Colored Days" by Dr. Seuss. It start with "Some days are yellow, some are blue. on different days, I'm different too. you'd be surprised how many ways I change on different colored days" (by the way... I remember the whole thing by heart, at this point LOL). I just love that book for kids - it goes through all the different feelings and normalizes them, and also has the most gorgeous illustrations.

I used BoBunny "Genevieve" collection, and BoBunny stamps and stencils. If you want a step-by-step guide on how to create this, you can check out This Post on the BoBunny blog.

This next spread is a little darker. I created the background by using s scraper to add black and white paint. I then added Prima silver crackle paste over a stencil, and painted the girl. The dots on her body were made using a Tim Holtz stencil and the black paint drips were made using a Crafter's Wrokshop stencil. At the end, I added some background print using a stamp.

Art Journal Week: Day 2

Hello! Yesterday I shared the cover of my August 2015 art journal, and today I will share the first two spreads in it.

The first two pages were made using gelatos, paint, a Prima stencil, and molding paste. The stamps are by Stampotique and I stamped them on tissue paper with Staz On ink, cut them out, and added them to the pages. I also used stamps for the lettering and crackle effect, Tim Holtz tissue paper, and Pitt Big Brush markers to add some coloring and details. The white marker I used to write with is by Sharpie.

The second spread above has the lyrics to "The Logical Song" by Roger Hodgson of Supertramp (you can listen to it HERE).  I used BoBunny paper on both sides to represent the two parts of the song - the "Enchanted Garden" collection on the first page and the "Pop Quiz" collection on the second page. I used Crafter's Workshop stencils for the trees, large numbers on the 2nd page, and the black dots. I tore up papers and pasted them on, and then added gelatos on top for color.

Well, I hope you guys enjoyed the first to pages. Come back the rest of this week for more of the art journal.

Art journal week! Day 1

Hi guys, this coming week, I'll be sharing my August 2015 art journal. I completed all the layouts this month, so the title for the journal was a no-brainer :) There are 14 two-page spreads in the journal, so I will post 2 a day. So I hope you stop by this week to check out the inside of the album!

I used an old "Storybook" by Fancy Pants. I tore out a few pages and glued some together so it wouldn't get too bulky since the spine was designed for something small and flat.

To create the cover, I dug up some old Thickers that had fallen off the sheets and were waiting to be trashed, and tore off the sticky backs (since they had gotten dusty and dirty). I glued the thickers down with gel medium and then gave the whole cover a couple coats of gesso. I then prayed it with BoBunny gold and bronze mists and a couple other colors, and then went over it with metallic gelatos.

To make the title stand out, I painted the word "August" and the date "2015" with gesso again, and then painted over that with gold paint. I also added an old Maya Road chipboard word "imagination" and painted that with some gelatos just on top, so it would stand out a little bit from the rest of the cover (but not as much as the main title).

Here's how the album looks inside... stay tuned for a look inside coming all this week :)

And here's the back of the album - it's hard to catch on camera how beautiful the gold and bronze really look. There's some shimmery blue there as well.

New Cards!

Hello, today I have three new cards to share, so let's get started. I drew the images for these cards myself, first with pencil, and then traced the images with an ink marker and then erased the pencil lines before coloring them in. All three of the papers were cut out using the BoBunny "Lattice Frame" die.

The first card is drawn on smooth Bristol paper, which is perfect for colored pencils. I use Prismacolor pencils. The collection I used was BoBunny's "Juliet" for the papers, die cuts, letter stickers, and buttons. As always, I also decorated the inside of the card. The flower is a BoBunny daisy.

The second card is also done on smooth Bristol paper and colored with pencils. I used the "Juliet" collection for the paper, sentiment sticker, cardstock sticker, and the little banners. The cut out on the side is the BoBunny "Elegant Border" die, and I added little BoBunny pearls to the inside of the banners. I made the little dots around the edge with the chocolate Pearlescents.

The third card is done on watercolor paper and colored in with watercolors. Here, I used BoBunny jewels and the "Sweet Life" collection.

I hope you liked my cards! It's actually a lot of fun to draw and color your own images and adds an even more special touch to the card - they're truly one of a kind :)

True Beauty

Hello, today I have a layout of Morgan, using the new BoBunny collection "Penny Emporium". I also added some of the wooden BoBunny embellies that I heat embossed with bronze thick embossing powder. I also used the BoBunny stars stencil and BoBunny jewels to add some of the little details... since it's all in the details :)

Morgan graduated from 5th grade this year, and is off to middle school for next year!

"For You" card

Hi guys, today I wanted to share a card I made using an adorable stamp from ppinkydolls and the beautiful brand new "Juliet" collection by BoBunny. I also used a BoBunny die to cut the stamp out. I made this card for the ppinkydolls June challenge on their FB page - to us pink colors... well, this is as pink as I get :)

Scrap Africa Challenge!

Hello, today I'm going to share the LO I created for Scrap Africa's

Challenge no.53 - Planes, Trains & Automobiles Mood Board

I was excited to be the guest designer this month, and this challenge was right up my alley since I have a little Dexter to scrap :)

I used BoBunny's "Souvenir" collection, the brads that went with it, and BoBunny's stars mask for the background.

A beachy BoBunny LO :)

I used the new Boardwalk collection by BoBunny to create a LO about our trip to the beach last year. I really love this beach collection - the colors, the distressed peeling paint prints and weathered wood and vintage little kids - it's totally up my alley.

Gift sets!

Hello, today I wanted to share tow gift sets I made of a gift bag and a card to match. I used the wonderful new collection "Penny Emporium" by BoBunny... I just love the vintage elements with a Steampunk flavor and the most gorgeous colors of blues and purples.

Here's the first set. I also added a little something to the insides of the cards. The cards are 4x8 - they come from a pack of card bases that I had, so they have envelopes that go with them.

And here's the second set. Again, I decorated the inside of the card and used some layered chipboard on the bag and on the card for a little detail. The intricate flourishes on the bags were made using a BoBunny die (see below for list of products).
